I believe that Thanksgiving has its origins in the cross. As a nation, we have a day set aside for the commemoration of giving thanks. Often times, as a country, we give thanks for many different things, and direct that thanks to many different parties. I think that through the course of time, Thanksgiving day has been a focus of a lot of pumpkin pie, Turkey and football. However, I think that origins of any true Thanksgiving have their origin in the cross of Jesus Christ.
Without the cross, we are subject to a lifelong slavery. Within any form of slavery, there is scarcely any type of thanksgiving. The cross frees us to give thanks (1 Thess 5:18), but it also gives us new life, integration within ourselves, and reunion with God, all of which give us the ability to actual "be" thankful
Turkey...mashed potatoes, family and more...yes I am looking forward to Thanksgiving Day...but it is the cross that frees me to experience any type of thanks.
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
