In a letter written just a few decades after the death of the Apostle Paul, these words were written:
…we should discipline our youth in the reverential fear of God…Let our children partake of the discipline that is in Christ. Let them learn the strength of humility before God and the power of pure love before God. Let them learn how the reverential awe of him is beautiful and great, and how it saves all those who conduct themselves in it [Or: in him] in a holy way, with a clear understanding" (taken from The Apostolic Fathers, Ehrman, pgs. 75 & 77, The Loeb Classical Library, Harvard University Press.)
The need for shepherding parents is not new to the church!
