Martin Luther on Galatians 1:4a

"Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins..."

Martin Luther writes: "Christ was given not only for other people's sins but also for your own. Hold on to this, and by no means let yourself be drawn away from this very sweet definition of Christ, which makes even the angels in heaven rejoice--that Christ is no Moses, no lawgiver, no tyrant, but a mediator for sins, a free giver of grace, righteousness, and life: who gave himself, not for our merits, holiness, righteousness, and godly life, but for our sins." -(Classic Bible Commentary, Galatians 1:4, Crossway)
